Soemadi Brotodiningrat - Senior Advisor
Ambassador Brotodiningrat had a distinguished 40-year career in foreign service during which he held numerous senior positions including Ambassador to the United States from 2002-2005, Ambassador to Japan from 1998 to 2002 and Ambassador/Permanent Representative to UN, GATT/WTO and other international organizations in Geneva from 1991-1995. His other senior positions at the Foreign Ministry included Director for Multilateral Cooperation from 1988-1991 and Director General for Foreign Economic Relations from 1995-1998.
In 2005, shortly after completing his tenure in Washington, Ambassador Brotodiningrat was named Chief Negotiator for the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with Japan. He completed the tasks when Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono signed the historic agreement in Jakarta in August 2007.
Since officially retiring from foreign service in 1995, Ambassador Brotodiningrat has joined the Boards of Commissioners of a number of corporations namely Astra International and DBS Bank Indonesia.
Ambassador Soemadi is currently the chief negotiator for the European Economic Partnership. He is also a senior advisor on international affairs for the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
